A BETTER WAY TO CALCULATE SEWER RATES!
Current Method:
Take 100% of all water used during December through February. Multiply the average times $7.01 per 1000 gallons and add $31.
This rate cannot be challenged and is fixed for the next 12 months!
The Better Method:
City should know cost of processing sewerage for prior year.
City should know our rate of growth for next year.
Take processing cost and increase for growth rate and divide by 12 to get a monthly budget.
Take the calculated monthly budget divided by total customers served in Taylor Texas. This would be the flat rate used for everyone’s sewer service.
Only exception would be for businesses and multifamily housing. They should pay the calculated flat rate plus an upcharge per 1000 gallons of water used for the month. This is necessary since it’s safe to assume that 100% of their water used goes in the sewer system.
